Coweta County native Joe M. Jackson participated in the dedication ceremony for the new Hilliard A. Wilbanks Middle School in north Georgia on Friday, August 12th.
Jackson, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel who now lives in Washington state, grew up in Coweta County. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for a daring rescue during the Vietnam War.
Jackson was the keynote speaker at the dedication of Hilliard A. Willbanks Middle School at Demorest in northeast Georgia's Habersham County on Saturday. The school is named in honor of a Medal of Honor recipient who gave his life in Vietnam -- and was born just a few miles from the site of the school.
